As a result, Elders offers a fragmented picture of the book, making it hard to read Iota as a whole. 4 Elders’ commentary relies heavily on controversial assumptions regarding the development of Aristotle's thought, which lead him to doubt the authenticity of many lines of Iota. 2 In modern times, the first commentary published in English, by Leo Elders, dates from 1961 3 the second was edited in Italian by Bruno Centrone almost 45 years later. The only ancient commentaries at our disposal were not written until the 12 th century-in Greek (probably) by Michael of Ephesus 1 and in Arabic by Averroes. Unlike other books of the Metaphysics, Iota has received little attention in the secondary literature. In what follows, I shall first outline how this commentary improves on previous work on Metaphysics Iota I shall then focus on its reconstruction of the content of Aristotle's book finally, I shall briefly outline how Castelli's analysis can contribute to exploring large-scale philosophical issues starting from Aristotle. ![]() ![]() Laura Castelli's commentary has the merit of filling an important gap in Aristotelian scholarship, offering an analysis which appeals both to the philosopher and to the historian of philosophy. ![]() The tenth book (Iota) is by far one of the least studied, and commented upon, of Aristotle's Metaphysics. ![]()
